TUESDAY TUNES: PETER, BJORN AND JOHN
Posted - March 31st, 2009 - Uncategorized
Peter Bjorn And John are probably best known for their hit single Young Folks, but the truth is that this talented group has much more to offer than catchy pop beats. That said, their new single is definitely easy on the ears…
Their entire new album, Living Thing, is released today. Catch a preview on their MySpace page.
SUNSHINE & SHADOW
Posted - March 30th, 2009 - Uncategorized
Time to update the spring wardrobe a bit with some cool prints? We’re really liking the subtle geometric patterns from Sunshine & Shadow…

Their pop of color mixed with olive and grey neutrals makes them extra cool… come rain or shine.

HAUTE OR NOT: GOLD BOOTS
Posted - March 26th, 2009 - Uncategorized
Our last two Haute Or Not posts turned out to be two trends that proved themselves to be winners as they continue to appear on the runways (jumpsuits and fringe!), but this one… we’re not so sure about its long-term success.
Yes, they’re Givenchy which already gives them extra fashionista points, but cowboy boots? What do you think? We suppose it’s one way to step up the glam factor on the Modern Prairie look.
LET’S DO LUNCH
Posted - March 25th, 2009 - Uncategorized
With our showroom located in downtown LA, we’re always on the hunt for new lunch spots or places to hit up after a long day, so we were psyched to check out one of the more recent additions to the constantly growing neighborhood – Yxta Cocina Mexicana.

The decor is as chill as the house margarita with an urban loft feel mixed with updated traditional details like the mosaic behind the bar.
We’re also diggin’ the fantastic menu with house specialties like carnitas estilo Michoacan (slow-cooked pork with guacamole, pico de gallo and cilantro lime rice) and enchiladas de flor de calabaza (squash blossoms zucchini and queso fresco). If that mole doesn’t have you rearranging your schedule for a little downtown lunch date, then we don’t know what will.

TUESDAY TUNES: LITTLE PICTURES
Posted - March 24th, 2009 - Uncategorized
This week’s Tuesday Tunes is purely for the love of a little indie pop and rockin’ headphones…
If you like the sounds of New Zealand’s Little Pictures check out their cover of Weezer’s Buddy Holly on their MySpace and we guarantee you’ll love ‘em even more.
OUT OF THIS WORLD
Posted - March 23rd, 2009 - Uncategorized
We’re not really used to seeing Reese Witherspoon take fashion risks outside of her clean and classic style, but we loved her rocking this sassy Rodarte dress, straight off the fall show runway for the LA premiere of her movie Monsters vs. Aliens.
Maybe it was an ode to theme, but we love the space-agey take on silvery grey with a pop of green. And how about those shoes?? Take note, people, grey is the new black (in case you haven’t noticed) and we’re lovin’ it with a pop of color for ringing in spring.
Maxi dress by Alexander McQueen, day dress from Luella, pumps by BCBG.
FRIDAY PHOTO: MICHAEL THOMPSON
Posted - March 20th, 2009 - Uncategorized
So… yeah, we featured some photography by Michael Thompson in last week’s Friday Photo, but honestly, how could we not use this one today?
March Madness has officially started, and we’re ready for basketball to take over the next few weeks (ok, we might try and design some awesome jeans in between, but honestly… we’re gonna be slacking and we’re pretty sure you are too…). Have a mad weekend.
MATTHEW WILLIAMSON FOR H&M
Posted - March 19th, 2009 - Uncategorized
The whole trend of designers creating lines for stores like Target and Payless has run the gamut of gorgeous to tacky. We’re not quite sure which category Matthew Williamson’s falls into, but his new collection for H&M is sure to make waves…
With his signature brights and unexpected patterns, its easy for this look to go bad when done on cheaper fabrics, but we do love the designs.
Trendier pieces, like the studded belt and jumpsuit, are must have items for spring that may not be around long enough to invest in, so why not pick them up at a lower price point?
Of course, we always prefer the real thing – especially Williamson’s fantastic new jewelry line.

SAINT CECILIA & THE SOUTH
Posted - March 18th, 2009 - Uncategorized
If we were heading to SXSW this week, this Austin hotel would be high on our list for lodging…
Named after the patron saint of music and poetry (so appropriate), Hotel Saint Cecilia has it all. Southern charm, simple cozy rooms that make you feel right at home, and (most importantly) a nice lap pool to beat the Texas heat.
The hotel includes 5 suites, 6 poolside bungalows, and three studios, each with their own unique style, a minibar stocked with local goodies, and (of course) its own sound system – turntable and ipod dock included.
This place had us at howdy. See ya’ll by the pool!
